Summary: This survey of the Historical Books of the Old Testament will be as good as you make it. You may feel that too much help is given for a survey. Again, you may feel that not enough detail is dealt with in the material. We suggest that while this series is prepared in thirteen lessons to cover a quarter, they may well be divided into twenty-six lessons for two quarters. If this is done, we suggest that the first apporach to each lesson be based on the daily Bible readings. This will give an over-all picture of each lesson. Then the second approach may be to use the detailed study. This has some repetition, but lifts out certain empahses which throw the whole into sharper focus. So remember this rule: Take the Bible readings the first class period on a given body of material, and the detailed study the second time. This is proposed in the back as suggestions for twenty-six lessons. The hardest task you will have is to make time for the daily Bible readings. Discipline yourself for this and hold your self to it. During the second week, if you are going half as fast, spend an equal amount of time each day on the detailed study and the suggested readings. They will prove doubly helpful after you have made a direct approach to the Bible itself. Above all, remember that this study guide is designed to get you into the Bible for yourself. It uses helps constantly, but not as a subsitute for studying the sacred text. The heart of this study guide is not the guide itself, but the Bible to which it points and whose pages it seeks to illuminate. If possible, work with one or more persons to share what you have learned. Study groups are found in most churches. Organize one if neccessary. Get in one and share the best thing you find week by week. May the Soirity of God guide you in this new adventure in learning."
